Former adult star Mia Khalifa faced consequences for expressing her support for Palestine on social media during the Israel and Hamas conflict. The conflict began when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in casualties. Mia Khalifa's public support for Palestine drew significant criticism, including from Canadian broadcaster Todd Shapiro, who decided to sever business ties with her.
In her series of posts, Mia Khalifa shared sentiments such as, "If you can look at the situation in Palestine and not be on the side of Palestinians, then you are on the wrong side of apartheid, and history will show that in time." She also made a comment about filming horizontally during the conflict, which contributed to her business deal with Todd Shapiro being terminated.
In response to her tweet, Todd Shapiro promptly announced Mia Khalifa's firing, expressing his strong disapproval, stating, "This is such a horrendous tweet @miakhalifa. Consider yourself fired effective immediately. Simply disgusting. Beyond disgusting." He urged her to evolve and become a better person, accusing her of condoning violence and other atrocities.
Mia Khalifa defended herself, stating, "I'd say supporting Palestine has lost me business opportunities, but I'm more angry at myself for not checking whether or not I was entering into business with Zionists. My bad." She clarified that her statement about "freedom fighters" was not meant to promote violence but to acknowledge the struggle of Palestinian citizens fighting for their freedom.
The conflict itself began when Hamas, the militant rulers of the Gaza Strip, launched an unexpected attack on Israel, firing thousands of rockets and infiltrating Israeli territory through various means. Israel declared war in response, resulting in casualties on both sides, with over 900 reported casualties in Israel since the conflict's onset.
